Hey Everyone! Another week over, how was yours? Come visit me over at it’s days like these.
Personal Training..is the juice worth the squeeze?
I’ve dabbled with Personal Training a few times in my life. Prior to my wedding I saw a female trainer who was decent but frustrated me with her constant self talk. I recently did group training but I found I work out more efficiently when I’m on my own, too many distractions! So I bit the bullet a few weeks back and booked myself in at the gym for some sessions. It also helped that I had a 50% off voucher!! My current trainer is very good. I deliberately chose a male this time and it was the right decision. The sessions are killer. I feel completely done afterwards and know that I’ve burned calories. He shows me how to use machines I’ve always shyed away from and sometimes I feel muscles working I didn’t know existed! My weekly session adds an element to my training that I can’t provide myself. It changes things up and keeps me motivated. It’s been third time lucky for me and I’m very glad I’ve finally found the right fit.
So, things to think about before making a commitment?
- I think it’s important firstly to look at whether you can commit, both financially and mentally to a trainer. Their price varies depending on their experience and it’s wise to thoroughly go through costings with the trainer prior to signing up.
- What do I mean by mentally? Well, if you don’t connect with the trainer or hate going, there’s really no point in handing over the cash. You want someone who works your body and mind. It’s nice to have a friendly chat over the weights, but not so much that you become their counsellor or vice versa. Personal Training sessions ain’t the hairdresser!
- In terms of the actual exercises, if you don’t love ‘gym’ style exercise then I wouldn’t bother getting a trainer. Most sessions involve a mixture of strength and cardio, so if team sports are more your thing, then you’re probably wasting both your money and time.
- It’s important to have someone with enough experience and training that they will confidently lead you through a wide variety of machines and exercises. Someone with a wide training repertoire is the way to go.
- Take the time to research your options. Perhaps you want to go through an actual personal training company rather than your gym. Ask around about trainers and don’t be afraid to switch if you’re not getting what you want. It’s your money and more importantly your body, so a perfect fit is well, perfect!
Happy Training!
See you next week!
