We all lead busy lives these days. Trying to juggle work, relationships, kids and pets as well as trying to have some sort of a social life can leave you precious little time for your skin care routine. I know my skin can often be neglected after a long day or a night out. But looking after your skin is important. It could mean the difference between looking 50 when you’re 80 or the other way around (and really, who wants that?)… Never fear, here are some tips to help you put your best face forward
- Always wash your face before you go to bed. Don’t wait until the last minute either because chances are you will be too tired to bother (I am totally guilty of that!). It’s important to find a face wash that your skin responds well to and then stick with it. Another thing I find handy for when I can’t be bothered washing my face is make up remover wipes. Johnson’s have a nice range of these. They work really well to clean your face and remove make up.
- Wear sunscreen every day, no matter what season it is. The easiest way to do this is to buy a moisturiser with an SPF of 15 or higher. UV rays damage your skin and can cause premature wrinkles. Ick! So protect your skin. The results will be worth it.
- Moisturise twice a day. This will not only add moisture to your skin (obviously) but it will smooth, soften and plump up the surface of the skin. Ageing skin looses moisture more easily so we need to help it by keeping it hydrated. Use a moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type (dry, oily, combination). Massaging your moisturiser into your face will stimulate circulation and will also help with toning.
- Wash your face after doing your hair. Most hair products contain ingredients that clog pores (honestly I hadn’t even thought about this until I started researching for this post, but it totally makes sense!) so after styling your hair, give your face a wash to remove all the nasty pore clogging nasties.
- Wash your make up brushes & sponges once a week with a mild soap & cold water. Oil & bacteria build up quickly and can cause break outs.
- Change your pillowcases regularly. . While you’re sleeping, bacteria and oil collect on your pillowcase. The next night, you put your face straight back on that build up. Gross! So, start a collection of pillow cases & wash them every couple of days.
- Exfoliate once a week. Exfoliating removes dead skin and promotes cell regeniration. Our skin does naturally exfoliate itself but using an exfoliant will accelerate in the process. Usually you will notice results after just one application. Your skin will be soft and smooth and dry patches may be reduced or gone altogether. Your skin is able to be more thouroughly cleaned after being exfoliated and is more receptive to skin care products. Like cleansers & moisturisers, you need to find an exfoliant that works for your skin. There are so many on the market!
- Drink plenty of water. Water flushes out toxins from the body and carries nutrients to where they’re needed. Water also keeps your body and your skin hydrated.
Doing all, or even some of these things will get you on your way to healthy, glowing skin.
